A common question from my Friday and Saturday early evening riders is,  “How late will you stay out tonight?”

“Until everyone is home, and Misfit Corner is empty.”

Most of my riders comment on the late night schedule, a few take the bait. “Misfit corner, where is that?”

Misfit corner . . . every town has one. It’s the place where the average patron age is lowest, the per person alcohol consumption is the highest, and the police are most likely to be on scene between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM.

In my town, Misfit Corner is 100 Ionia Ave. In East Lansing, misfit corner starts in the middle of M.A.C. Ave, just off Grand River and stretches around the corner onto Albert street. When the weather is warm, patrons stretch around the block waiting to get into the noisy clubs, where it takes an hour to get a beer and you can’t hear someone talking to you who’s standing two feet away.

I don’t know what the appeal is . . . hopefully that means I’m not a misfit.
